The network named Heloise is a scientific community for the study of European university history since the Middle Ages, and was founded in May 2012. The participating scientists and institutions look together for technical solutions (methods and tools) to support collaboration in the adding, editing and publication of data for digital archives and catalogues.
The workshop “Atelier Heloïse 2013″ to be held in Bologna from June, 3rd to 5th aims to work on technical solutions. During the workshop will give a talk on scientific collaboration on the example of the Catalogus Professorum Lipsiensium.
Catalogus Professorum Lipsiensium as an example for collaborative work on the semantic web
The Catalogus Professorum Lipsiensium (CPL) is a historical prosopographical database about professors of the University of Leipzig. It aims to covers all full professors of the University of Leipzig since 1409. The catalogue contains facts about historical persons (2,000 professors) and related bodies and institutions (400). Facts are linked by 15,000 periods of life of the professors. The resulting core knowledge base consist of 210,000 RDF triples. 180,000 of them have been added manually by historians. The CPL is fully based on RDF an described by an OWL vocabulary. The talk presents the main concepts of CPL: Professor, Body and Period of life, as well alignment to other vocabularies and knowledge bases. Generic tools used for CPL will be also shown within the presentation.

As part of the project “Development of a data management platform for Linked Open Library Data and Eletronic Resource Management” funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the AKSW research group is collaborating with scientists at the University Library in Leipzig and the Saxon State and University Library on the develop of a triple store based data management platform. We are looking for experience developers to join the team.
At May, 8th 2013 I attended the interesting Award ceremony for this year’s Humboldt Professorships. The Humboldt Professorship is the highest scientific award in Germany. Connected to the Award is a integrated concept of the nominating universities, in addition to an outstanding personality.

The I-SEMANTICS 2013, the 9th International Conference on Semantic Systems, brings together both researchers and practitioners in the fields of Semantic Technologies, Linked Data and the Semantic Web.
As part of the I-SEMANTICS 2013 the “I-CHALLENGE”, which brings to you the 6th Linked Data Cup (formerly Triplification Challenge) will hold.
In order to bring the research fields of knowledge discovery, social computing, and semantic technologies together the I-SEMANTICS Conference will be held together with the I-KNOW Conference, the 13th International Conference on Knowledge Technologies.

Within the humanities a large number of information about individuals are be or will be obtained. The Workshop “More people – more data – more repositories” held by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (4th to 6th March 2013) is focused on linking of such digital research results.
As part of the workshop a large number of scientists will present their research databases. Linking and the standardization of domain-specific vocabularies or schemas is the second main topic of the workshop.
In a thematically table “Semantic Web” at 5th March (4pm) I will answer questions on the topic of the Semantic Web and have discussions on this. The focus of my talk “Vocabulary alignment patterns for the alignment of persons databases on the Semantic Web” at 6th March (9 am) is on using patterns for modelling of vocabularies so that they are aligned with other vocabularies.
27.02. – 01.03.2013 at the University of Leipzig
The WI2013 topics: innovation, integration and customization are the three current most important research topics in the computer science industry. They range from business models based powerful information technologies to an increased interaction with users, such as the Social Web. The program of the WI2013 not only covers these priorities, furthermore all field of computer science industry.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science students of the University of Leipzig in the software engineering internship in the 4th Semester developed a exchange platform for childcare places, which is now officially passed over to test mode. During the internship, the group of 7 students realized the platform http://www.kitaplatztausch.gesamtelternrat-leipzig.de along the software development process.
The work was iniciated by parents Gesamtelternrat der Stadt Leipzig. Using the web-based tool SoftWiki were jointly togehter with the parents’ representatives and the Jugendamt of the city of Leipzig elicitated requirements. This was followed by the development of a prototype and modeling using object-oriented analysis.
Using the paradigm of “Programming in Pairs” from the Extreme Programming engineering method, the platform was then implemented within 5 weeks. The installation and acceptance took place in autumn 2012.
